Landscape Gardeners Across Sussex and Surrey

Paving, groundworks, drainage, walling, fencing, planting and full garden builds - carried out by our own team, to the same standard whether it is a single terrace or an entire garden.

Most landscaping failures happen below ground

Almost every remedial job we are called to in Mid Sussex comes down to the same three things: paving spot-bedded onto sand, retaining walls built without drainage, and topsoil laid straight over compacted subsoil. It all looks fine for two summers. On Weald clay, it rarely lasts five.

We build the other way round - levels, excavation and drainage first, then bases, then surfaces, then planting. It is slower and it is not what you see in the finished photograph, but it is the reason the finished photograph still looks that way a decade later.

What we take on

Patios, paving and terraces

Sawn sandstone, porcelain, granite setts and reclaimed brick, laid on a full mortar bed over a properly built base - not spot-bedded onto sand.

Groundworks and drainage

Levels, excavation, land drainage and soakaways. On Weald clay this is the part that decides whether a garden still works in five years.

Retaining walls and steps

Engineered retaining structures, brick and stone walling, and steps cut to comfortable proportions rather than to whatever the slope dictates.

Fencing, screening and boundaries

Hardwood screens, sweet chestnut, hit-and-miss fencing and boundary planting for privacy on overlooked plots.

Lawns and planting

Soil rebuild, turf and seeded lawns, plus full planting schemes sourced from specialist nurseries with a maintenance plan to match.

Structures and lighting

Pergolas, garden rooms, outdoor kitchens, irrigation and low-voltage lighting, installed as part of the build rather than bolted on later.

Landscaping questions we get asked

What is the difference between landscaping and garden design?
Design is the drawings - survey, concept, planting plan and construction detail. Landscaping is the build: groundworks, drainage, paving, walling, structures and planting. We do both in-house, so nothing gets lost between the plan and the site.
Do you take on landscaping without a design?
Yes. Plenty of jobs are a terrace, a set of steps, a drainage fix or a boundary rebuild. We will tell you honestly when a scheme is big enough to need a proper design first.
What does landscaping cost in Sussex?
A quality terrace with the groundworks done properly typically starts in the low tens of thousands, and full garden builds usually run from around £40,000 upward. Every quote is fixed after a site visit.
How far do you travel?
Roughly 25 miles from our Mid Sussex yard - across West Sussex and East Sussex, into Surrey and the Kent border.
