A garden office is not a shed with a plug socket
The difference between a garden building you use for three months a year and one you work in every day comes down to three things: insulation, electrics and the quality of the finish. Most off-the-shelf garden offices cut corners on at least one of them. Ours are built the same way we build a home extension - proper groundworks, a fully insulated envelope, certified power and a plastered, decorated interior.
Clients across Haywards Heath, Burgess Hill, Cuckfield, Lindfield, Horsham and Crawley use theirs as full-time offices, consulting rooms, studios and gyms. Several have replaced a commute entirely.
What is included as standard
Fully insulated shell
Insulation in floor, walls and roof, so the room holds temperature in January as well as July.
Certified electrics
Sockets, dimmable lighting, heating and an optional data run back to the house, all fully tested and certified.
Finished interior
Plastered and decorated walls, six flooring options, and acoustic slatted panelling if you take a lot of calls.
Slimline glazing
Aluminium bifold, sliding or French doors with double glazing - light without the greenhouse effect.
Built by our own team
No subcontracted crews. The people who design your office are the people who build it.
Groundworks included
Base, drainage and levelling handled as part of the job, including on sloping Mid Sussex plots.
What a garden office costs
We would rather be straight about budget than make you fill in a form to find out. As a guide, a fully insulated and fully finished garden office from us typically starts around £25,000 for a compact single-room build, with larger rooms, extensive glazing, shower rooms or a sauna taking it upwards from there.
That figure includes groundworks, the building itself, insulation, certified electrics, heating, flooring and decoration. It is a room you can move a desk into, not a shell to finish yourself. Every quote is fixed after a site visit, so the number you sign is the number you pay.
Garden office questions we get asked most
- Do I need planning permission for a garden office?
- Most garden offices fall under permitted development: single storey, under 2.5m high if within 2m of a boundary, taking up no more than half the garden, and not used as a separate dwelling. Listed buildings, conservation areas and front gardens are the usual exceptions. We check your specific plot before we quote and handle an application if one is needed.
- How much does a garden office cost?
- As a guide, a fully insulated, fully finished garden office from us typically starts around £25,000 for a compact single-room build and rises with size, glazing and specification. That includes groundworks, the building, insulation, electrics, flooring and decoration - not a shell you finish yourself.
- Can I work in it all year round?
- Yes. Every build is insulated in floor, walls and roof, double glazed, and fitted with low-profile heating as standard. Clients use them through winter without a portable heater.
- How long does it take to build?
- Once the design is signed off, a typical garden office takes two to four weeks on site. Lead time from first call to build start is usually six to ten weeks depending on the season.
- Do you install power and broadband?
- Power is included as standard - a fully certified supply from the house with sockets, lighting and heating. We run data cable at the same time if you would rather not rely on Wi-Fi across the garden.
