Designing for Surrey ground
Chalk on the North Downs, greensand through the Surrey Hills and heavy clay in the vales - three very different soils within a few miles, each demanding a different planting palette and a different approach to drainage and retaining.
Steep gardens are the other Surrey constant. Terracing them properly, with retaining structures that will still be true in twenty years, is the single biggest cost driver and the thing worth designing carefully.

Surrey Hills and conservation constraints
A large part of east Surrey sits within the Surrey Hills National Landscape, and Reigate, Dorking and Oxted all have substantial conservation areas. Both affect what can be built, how tall, and occasionally which materials are acceptable.
We check the designations on your address at survey stage so nothing surfaces late.

- Yes - most of our Surrey work involves slope. Terracing, retaining walls and drainage are designed and costed at drawing stage rather than discovered on site.
- Do you build what you design?
- Yes, with our own teams. You can also take the drawings elsewhere if you prefer.
- How much does garden design cost?
- A paid consultation and survey comes first, then a fixed design fee scaled to the garden. We agree it before any drawing starts.
